It’s been 6 years!

Today marks a very special day in my life.  It was on this very day six years ago that I had gastric bypass surgery.  I am so thankful that I did this as I feel it changed my life forever.  The new found energy that I had as I began to lose weight gave me a sense of ‘the real me’ that I always personally felt was there, despite the aches and pains I physically felt, along with the snickering, rude comments and unkind words I had heard my entire life.

It was a huge decision that I didn’t take lightly.  Having the support of my husband, family, and close friends made it all that much easier for me.  So, I always fondly think of this day, as a stepping stone in a healthier me!

To see my entire journey, please feel free to look at my weight loss link.  I’m an open book.  Today, I weigh 155.5 lbs, and although I still have about 9 lbs of baby weight from my third child I want to lose, I’m very content with where I am, and where I have come from.

  1. Good Evening, I saw a reply you left on another website and I am hoping you can help me. I am 8 years post RNY and 6 weeks pregnant. I have 2 other children. While taking routine labs for the pregnancy the doctor discovered my hemoglobin was 7.7. I see a hematologist r/t a clotting disorder. They are recommending Venofer infusions starting this week then weekly x4 more weeks. I am so afraid and ready to say no! Did you have the iron infusions in the first trimester?

    • Hello Kim! Congratulations on your pregnancy! I did have the Venofer and to be honest I do not remember the exact timeline I was in my pregnancy. If memory serves me correct, I began them for certain in November (I had my son May 19th), which means that I may have been at the end of my first trimester. I had no problems with the Venofer at all and although it did make my labs go up, it seemed to be a very slow progression, which is why I had the Venofer several times through my pregnancy. The recommendation that I absolutely do have is that you get the Venofer in your hemotologist’s office. They would be equip to handle very fast any situation ( due to any type of allergic reaction, etc) that may not be as readily available in a traditional office. If I can be of any more help, let me know!! – Heather
